If you are a victim of job loss, or another serious life event that adversely affects your finances, you are likely having difficulty making ends meet. When you do not make payments on time, creditors may try to get what is owed to them by garnishing your wages or freezing your bank accounts.
The Dickerson Law Firm, P.A., serves clients throughout the south Arkansas area on bankruptcy matters. We have handled thousands of cases and are knowledgeable of the law and bankruptcy procedures. Our lawyers are known for their personal service, attention to detail, work ethic and dedication to individuals experiencing financial problems.
If you are facing wage garnishment, contact our El Dorado, Hot Springs, Pine Bluff or Conway or wage garnishment attorney by calling 1800 STOP DEBT. Our free initial consultation will determine if a Chapter 7 bankruptcy or Chapter 13 bankruptcy is right for you. We offer same day appointments — do not delay, call now.
How Does Garnishment Work?
If an individual does not pay his or her debt, the creditor may take action by filing a lawsuit to obtain a judgment from the court. That judgment or writ of garnishment gives the creditor the right to garnish or essentially take a large percentage of your wages — essentially taking away money you have allocated for food or rent.
This can be particularly difficult for individuals who are already struggling to make ends meet. In addition, garnishment can affect an individual's employment. At times, employers will fire someone if garnishment has occurred.
If you receive a first complaint from a creditor, come to see our law firm right away. We can prevent garnishment or stop a garnishment that has already been initiated. Once a bankruptcy is filed, an "automatic stay" is in place, which requires that all garnishments stop.
